lester.gosbee@btinternet.com Last time we had snow on the ground at Christmas was 2010, and it is very unlikely to happen this Christmas. The winter solstice is on December 21. If it is not too foggy you will see the sun rise around 8am. Today (Friday): A rather overcast day, but cloud may thin to allow some weak sunshine. Winds will be light at 3-8mph and southerly, with temperatures at 10C (50F). Tomorrow (Saturday): The day may begin with some local fog patches. It will be a colder start at 5C (41F). There will be some sunny spells. Temperatures will be closer to normal at 7-8C (45-46F). Sunday: Back to being overcast with the odd spot of brightness. Winds will be back to a southerly direction. Temperatures will be at 8C (46F). Monday to Tuesday: Staying fine with a better chance of sunshine by day, but with the added risk of a slight frost, down to -2C (28F) in the countryside. There will also be some dense fog patches. Winds will be almost calm and south easterly with temperatures at 5-7C (41-45F). Wednesday: It looks like being foggy and gloomy with a little drizzle in the fog. High over the Downs will see the best of any brightness. Winds will be calm at 1-3mph with temperatures between 6 and 8C (43-46F). Thursday: Another foggy, damp start, but there is more chance of a little more breeze to lift the fog into low cloud. Winds will be at 3-6mph, south easterly, but may become variable. We should expect patchy frost, so averages will be lower temperature wise, in fact back to normal.
