lester.gosbee@btinternet.com This December has been exceptionally dry. In fact, Kent had only four days of the whole month that had rain up to the 20th, with a total of less than half an inch in most places. It looked like the quiet weather will last up to Christmas, but that is not to be as the jet stream is travelling at 230mph at 30,000 feet, bringing us all some disturbed weather at times. Today (Friday): Large area of low pressure are now queuing up to the west of the UK, but Kent will have one quiet day. It will be mostly cloudy, but also with some brightness at times. Winds will be southerly at 3-10mh with temperatures at 10C (50F). Christmas Eve: A blustery day with some spells of rain, but there will also be dry spells in the mix with a bit of sunshine. Winds will be south westerly at 10-18mph, stronger on the Channel coast with temperatures at 9C (48F). Christmas Day: The day may start fine and chilly in the countryside with temperatures at 4C (39F). There will be too much breeze for there to be a ground frost. Winds will increase throughout the day. It will be a wet and windy afternoon and evening, making it our wettest day so far this December. Winds will be at 16-24mph. Temperatures will be at 10C (50F), but it will not feel that mild. Boxing Day to Thursday: Staying very unsettled with short spells of stormy weather with gales, but winds will drop out leaving some brighter spells. It will be mostly mild, but there will be short spells of cold showery weather, more towards midweek when winds will turn north westerly. Temperatures could drop to 5C (41F) by day on Wednesday.
