Gillingham

PLAYERS MAY ALSO BE LEAVING DURING THE TRANSFER WINDOW

-

Gillingham will be in the market for new additions when the January transfer window opens.

Boss Justin Edinburgh is keen to bolster his squad with a couple of signings as they look to improve their fortunes in the second part of the season.

“We might have to tweak here and there,” said the Gills boss.

“We have to be conscious that we could lose a couple of the loans, if not all of them.

“You need to improve and can’t stand still. You always need to move forward and there will be a couple of new faces around the group, I hope. That is what the plan is.”

Edinburgh said it was possible a few could be leaving.

He said: “Maybe a few of the younger players could go and get games. There are plans as we move along.”

Meanwhile, Stuart Nelson is expected to be fit for Gillingham’s Boxing Day clash at Peterborough. The goalkeeper suffered swelling to his ankle after saving last Saturday’s penalty with his toe, during the 1- 0 home win against MK Dons.

Nelson was due back in training yesterday (Thursday) in time to keep his place for the Christmas trip. Boss Justin Edinburgh, speaking on Tuesday, said: “He should be back in training in the latter part of this week. I expect Stu would be fit.”

Edinburgh will be hoping that’s the case as Reading’s loan keeper, Jonathan Bond, is still struggling with a groin injury and is a doubt for the game himself.

Edinburgh added: “It has taken a little bit longer than Reading expected but he could be back for Peterborough. We will see on that.

“Stu is in magnificent form but we would want Bondy back because we want that competition and know he is a value to the squad.

“Hopefully, we will have him back before the loan expires (on January 3).”

Utility-man Chris Herd is expected to be fit again while Elliott List and Emmanuel Osadebe are both back and battling for a place in the squad.

Meanwhile, midfielder Billy Knott is still undergoing treatment for a hamstring injury and Bradley Garmston is continuing to try and get himself right having experienced problems in both hamstrings since recovering from a dislocated knee-cap.
