Masked raiders terrify petrol station worker
Woman was locking up for the night when gang struck
A woman was put through a terrifying ordeal after masked robbers forced their way into a petrol station as she tried to close for the night.
Police were called on Monday, at 11.05pm after the Shell service station on the Maidstone-bound carriageway of the A249, at Detling Hill, was targeted.
The gang made the employee stay in a back room as they stole the safe.
Patrols and a police helicopter were scrambled and began searching for the suspects, who are believed to have left the scene in two 4x4s.
All three men had their faces covered and have not yet been found. They wore black clothing and gloves with hooded tops and scarfs.
A vehicle was later seized nearby and is undergoing forensic checks.
Crime scene investigators have also taken forensic samples from the petrol station and officers are continuing to trawl through CCTV.
DS Jason Booth said: “The suspects forced their way into the garage as a mem- ber of staff was trying to lock the main entrance. She was then made to stay in a back room, while the robbery was in progress.
“Although no violence was used, this would have been a terrifying ordeal.
“We are following a number of lines of inquiry but I would also urge anyone who may have seen anything suspicious or has any information to get in touch.”
