A million doodles? That’s no doddle

It could take 14 years but artist says he’ll do it

An artist has racked up more than 150,000 doodles on paper, clothes and even streets – but he says he won’t stop until he reaches one million.

The Doodle Man – aka Sam Cox – has recently been drawing famous London landmarks in his unique style.

Using his Lenovo Yoga Book, the former Homewood School, Tenterden, pupil has then been posting the doodles on his Facebook page and holding a competition to guess which spot he’s drawing.

He recently doodled all over a room for the London Illustration Fair, a three-day annual showcase of the world’s most sought-after creatives. He said: “It was a very fun experience and once I completed the room live during the fair, I then went outside onto the street and rolled out some paper and made some doodles outside. “I’ve also been working with a company called KCS recently at their trade events. I have been creating live murals for them which illustrate the kinds of things they supply for schools and education.” Incredibly, Doodle Man is just a few strokes away from completing his 150,000th iPhone doodle and says he won’t stop until he reaches one million.

He added: “I started this project two and a half years ago and I estimate it will take me around another 14 years to get there.

“I worked out that if I printed all of my iPhone doodles and laid them out on the road then they would cover the distance from Tenterden to Ashford, which is over eight miles.

“I create them while I am walking around from place to place – they’re just quick squiggles but every one counts!”

In what has been a very busy year, Doodle Man has also been creating work for Tezenis, an underwear shop in Oxford Circus, including a video, bag designs and a huge piece outside the shop.
