lester.gosbee@btinternet.com December was exceptionally dry in Kent, and I recorded just 11mm in Frittenden for the whole of the month, our driest December since 1988 as it was throughout the county. The sunshine total for 2016 was 5-8% below average in Kent. Fog was more problematical as it hung around longer than predicted. Today (Friday): There will be some patchy frost in the countryside, with minimum temperatures down to 0C (32F). There will be early brightness, then it will become cloudy. There will be light rain by evening. Winds will be westerly at 3-7mph with temperatures close to average at 7C (45F). Tomorrow (Saturday): There is the possibility that it will still be damp first thing, but it will soon dry up. It will, however remain cloudy. Winds will be westerly or north westerly at 5-8mph with temperatures 10C (50F). Sunday: The day will start frost free, but it will be another overcast day. The cloud may thin so it will be less dull, but it will remain dry as high pressure hangs on in Southern UK. Winds will be at 6-10mph, north westerly. Temperatures will be very mild at 11-12C (52-54F). Monday: Another frost free start, but high pressure will keep Kent fine on all week days. Monday should see some brightness, with winds at 4-7mph, westerly with temperatures at 10C (50F). Tuesday to Thursday: Back to frosty mornings and brighter days. There will be the risk of local freezing fog early mornings. The winds will be back northerly, but very light. Some night minimums will be back down to -4 to -5C (23-25F), with day temperatures around 6-7C (43-45F).
