Trust creates three top jobs in shake-up

-

A hospital medical director will step down from his management position, amid a shake up of leadership.

Dr Paul Sigston will leave his role in February to concentrate on his clinical role as a consultant in anaesthesia and intensive care.

The Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust is creating three new deputy medical director roles, each with a different focus.

Dr Wilson Bolsover, consultant paediatrician, will cover women’s children’s and sexual health and Dr Laurence Maiden, consultant physician and gastroenterologist, will focus on urgent care.

Both already work at the organ- isation’s hospitals.

Mr Sigston, who earns £230,000 as medical director, will temporarily cover the remaining deputy role – planned care – until a permanent appointment is made.

One of the major issues he faced during his tenure included halting specialist cancer keyhole surgery in 2015 after an investi- gation showed five patients died from avoidable complications.

Dr Peter Maskell, a consultant stroke physician, will become medical director.
