George Michael paid for my IVF
A Kent woman who went on ITV’s This Morning to join a debate about IVF eligibility has revealed George Michael anonymously paid for her treatment.
Jo Maidment and husband Will, 44, found out the generous benefactor was the singer when he sent a bouquet and card revealing his identity more than a year later, after the birth of baby Betsy.
After his death at Christmas, aged 53, his family gave their blessing for Mrs Maidment to share the secret. Mrs Maidment, from Deal, returned to the This Morning sofa this week to tell her story.
The 40-year-old donated her appearance fee to Childline as a way of saying thank you to the star, who she never met. She said: “It’s a charity that he’s always supported and we’ve never been in it for the money.”
The couple regularly sent pictures and updates of Betsy, who was born in 2012, to the singer via his PA.
