Campaigns blessing those struggling with hardship

- Restoring Hands donated gifts and hampers through its campaigns

As 2017 gets going, several charities can reflect on the help they have given to those who are struggling.

The Restoring Hands organisation donated 250 gifts and 65 hampers through its campaigns.

The projects have been widely supported by local organisations and schools, who have donated what they can to help the cause.

The charity, which is based in George Street, Maidstone, has been running for 12 years.

In that time it has given thousands of presents to children and families who, for whatever reason, may go without.

Charity spokesman Rachel Gosden said: “The idea is simply to bless others.

“As a charity we realise how fortunate we are and there are so many others that go without.

“We would hear stories of children who suffer real hardship.”

The County Town’s Salvation Army also gave families in need a treat, thanks to a parcel appeal, supported by nearby schools. That saw more than 200 food hampers created and 430 presents were destined for youngsters. They were put together at the organisation’s centre in Union Street.

Several businesses gave their support including Golding Homes, which donated money, CAF and Asda at Kings Hill.

Pupils from Maidstone Grammar School, Maidstone Grammar School for Girls, Invicta Grammar School, Shernold School and Allington Primary School also donated toys and food.

Carole Dodd, Salvation Army family worker, said: “The ladies from the Women’s Institute were very supportive and the public were extremely generous and we were quite overwhelmed with the kindness. A big thank-you to everyone.”

Singers, who took to The Mall Maidstone, raised £3,000 for their chosen charities. They included staff, volunteers and supporters of Age UK, who raised £391.84 for the Maidstone branch and recruited two volunteers in the process.
