Spirit’s still good as drop zone looms

Maidstone could drop into the relegation zone for the first time this season – but there will be no sulking at the Gallagher.

With no game tomorrow (Saturday), North Ferriby and Woking have the chance to climb out of the National League bottom four at United’s expense.

Manager Jay Saunders is surprised his side haven’t been in there already after a run of 12 defeats in 16 games but he’s convinced better times are ahead.

He said: “We haven’t spoken about dropping into the bottom four. I’m only concerned with getting our next win on the board. If we get one, it will spark us a little bit and we can get a couple on the bounce.

“You look at Braintree and a couple of other clubs who were down there, two or three wins and they’ve climbed out of it.

“I’m surprised we’ve not dropped in there sooner with the run we’ve been on.

Maidstone will train tomorrow, giving them a head-start on preparatio­ns for the Torquay home game on Saturday, January 21.
