Man, 37, dies as his car hits trees and turns over
Slip road closed for hours after tragedy
A 37-year-old driver died after his car left the road and collided with trees and a telegraph pole.
The accident, involving a silver VW Golf, happened on the A229 Chatham Road, Maidstone, and emergency services were called just after 3.30am on Sunday.
The car had been on the slip road heading towards the Running Horse roundabout. The driver, a 37- year- old, from Rochester, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The vehicle ended up on its roof and the main route had to be closed for several hours afterwards.
Officers remained at the scene and the stretch of the A229 where it becomes Royal Engineers Road was closed between the Ringlestone / Springfield Roundabout and Running Horse Roundabout.
Kent Fire and Rescue launched their drone just after 10am to assist police with their investigation.
Traffic heading out of the County Town towards Chatham was diverted up Boxley Road and through Sandling and the slip road reopened later that day.
It comes just a few weeks after the death of another driver along Blue Bell Hill who swerved to avoid a mattress believed to have fallen from a car.
Clive Mauger, from Chatham, died when his Peugeot 206 came off the A229 and smashed into trees.
An inquest opening last week heard the 69-year-old car valeter was on his way to meet a friend at the time of the crash on January 30. The full inquest will be held in April.
Another crash also happened on Sunday in the County Town, when at 12.40am a car crashed in Sittingbourne Road. Police officers and South East Coast Ambulance Service found a man and woman with injuries. The woman went to a local hospital and the man was taken to a London hospital.
The road remained closed until the car was recovered.
