A retired support worker is trading in her 20-year-old car for a new set of wheels thanks to a charity lottery.

Pauline Eley started taking part in the Kent, Surrey and Sus- sex Air Ambulance lottery five years ago.

The mother of one from Larkfield put in £8 a month to the charity draws and thought nothing of it until she received a call to tell her she had won a jackpot of more than £21,000.

She’d used lucky numbers 3, 4, 16, and 22, chosen from family birthdays. To give some- thing back to one of the family members, she will be buying her daughter a newer car with the money.

She is also upgrading her 20-year-old Nissan Micra to a Skoda Fabia estate and will be embarking on a walking holiday in Wales.

She said: “I feel very lucky because I never expected to win, I was just happy to support a great cause. I was so surprised and really pleased – I’ve never won anything before!

“On Saturday, I kept going to the front door to wait for the post and was so excited when the cheque arrived.

“Being retired, this win has come at a good time. I’m looking forward to celebrating!”

The lottery costs £1 per week and 12 winners are drawn every seven days, with prizes ranging from £25 to £1,000.

Mrs Eley was lucky enough to win the Superdraw, which costs an extra £1 a week but has a maximum jackpot of £25,000.
