Man hurt in flat blaze

A man was taken to hospital in a serious condition after a fire in a flat.

Crews were called to Connaught Road, in Folkestone, on Tuesday morning. Police taped off the road. An ambulance service spokesman said the man was treated at the scene and taken to the William Harvey Hospital, Ashford.

A spokesman for the fire service said: “Crews used breathing apparatus to check the building. The cause of the fire is not yet known.”

One witness said he heard a series of sirens as fire engines and other emergency vehicles made their way to the threestorey building. They said the windows to the building had been blown out.
