£1m charity closes down
A charity that has raised £1 million for adults with learning difficulties will dissolve after 45 years.
Formed in 1972, the Kent Handicapped Caring Association has never used paid fundraisers and has found it more difficult to hold events.
Chairman Vanessa MacNaughton said: “It is wonderful we have been able to enhance the lives of so many dependent people over the years. Our first project was to fund the building of a bungalow for six young adults at Pepenbury in Pembury. But it didn’t have to be big to be important. One of our smallest donations was a washer-dryer so a young man with a gardening job could go to work each day with clean dry clothes.”
