New face Hughes leads way

The Valentine’s-themed Maidstone parkrun, combined with snow, made it a colourful scene on the riverbank on Saturday.

It brought a new face to the fore with Ben Hughes (JM15-17) leading the field home in 17min 35sec.

Ed Peters, following his good form in the previous Sunday’s Ashford 10k, took second in 18.29 with another teenager, Harry Brown (JM15-17), a close third in 18.34.

Abbi Gutsell, following her second place three weeks ago, was the leading lady this time with a PB of 22.10.

Alison Davey, the winner three weeks ago, was second in 22.48 and Vera Hunter was third with a PB of 23.21.

Roger Hyland, ninth overall in 20.11, was the best age-graded performer with a score of 80.18% as 273 people took part.

Malling also saw a new face at the front as Daniel De La Cruz took first place in 18.55.

Justin Lane moved up a place from last week to finish second in 19.36 with this time giving him the best age-graded score of 70.15%.

Paul Elton repeated his third place of two weeks ago with a time of 20.20.

For the ladies, Angela Holmes was first home in 24.24 with Carrie Hitchman a close second in 24.26 and Louise Holden, repeating her placing of three weeks ago, third in 25.26. There were 86 runners.
