Kent Messenger Maidstone

It’s medieval poo and Roman bones

-

Children had the chance to get up close with some archaeological finds at the Kent History and Library Centre.

The centre in James Whatman Way, Maidstone, is hosting an exhibition of artefacts discovered by the Canterbury Archaeological Trust across 40 years of digs.

With guidance from the trust’s educational officer, young visitors were allowed to handle some of the exhibits and asked to guess what they were.

The answers included a Stone Age axe-head, a Victorian money box, a cat’s skull from the Roman era and some medieval poo.

Heritage services manager Dr Mark Bateson said: “The children were enthusiastic and loved touching the objects – though we kept the poo in a box.”
