Store boss hit chasing down thief

A Maidstone supermarket manager bravely tackled a thief only to receive a punch in the face for his troubles.

The member of staff at Morrisons chased the man, who is believed to have stolen meat, out of the Sutton Road store just after 3pm on Sunday and into nearby Shepway before tackling him to the ground. Muddied and bloodied, the manager returned to the store and got on with his shift.

A 22-year-old man from Maidstone was arrested in Middlesex Road on suspicion of theft and assault. He has been bailed until Monday, March 27.
