Smart Alex aids rescue act

Express Cabs Maidstone & District League

-

Headcorn produced a sensational recovery after twice falling two goals down against Marden Minors in the Express Cabs Maidstone & District League Premier Division before snatching a last-minute winner.

Marden could have gone jointsecond with a win and went into a 2- 0 lead, and later held a 4-2 advantage.

However Headcorn rallied to level at 4- 4 and, after the Minors hit the bar in the dying seconds, the hosts went down the other end to win it themselves.

Alex Oliver-Philpot bagged a hattrick for the home side with Ross Richardson and Pete Sikora getting the others.

Lenham Wanderers missed the chance to move into the top half after being held 2-2 by second-bottom Eccles.

The hosts bossed much of the match and created the better chances, however they twice had to come from behind to earn their point.

Lenham cancelled out an Eccles opener on the stroke of half-time and though they continued to press, Eccles made it 2-1 and Lenham needed a penalty to salvage a draw, with the Eccles keeper preventing them taking all three points.

Parkwood Jupitors lost more ground in Division 1 after a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Eccles Reserves.

In an evenly-matched game, all the action arrived late on with Gary Brown’s goal for second-placed Parkwood a mere consolation as two late goals from Eccles edged it.

Despite a battling performance, Lenham Wanderers Reserves suffered a 5- 0 defeat at Ashford League leaders Bromley Green in the Weald of Kent Cup.
