Police alert over cash for fraudsters

Police have issued a warning after elderly people were targeted in Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells.

A bank in the County Town contacted police after an elderly man withdrew £9,500 last Wednesday to pay two builders.

The builders had partially completed work for the victim in November and visited him last week demanding more money.

Police are looking for the men and urged anyone with informatio­n to call 101.

Another bank also alerted police after another elderly resident withdrew £12,000 over the course of last Thursday and Friday to pay someone who was painting her living room.

An elderly woman also raised concerns after she received a call at her Tunbridge Wells home from someone telling her to buy iTunes vouchers and pass on the serial numbers.

Sgt Rachael Cumberland reminded residents not to give out personal details, adding: “If someone knocks on your door offering to complete work on your house, always seek a second opinion and, if in doubt, tell a family member who may be able to help.”
