Actor’s career spanned over four decades

Acclaimed actor Tony Haygarth, who lived in Paddock Wood, has died following a battle with dementia.

The 72-year-old, whose career spanned more than four decades, passed away peacefully in the company of his two daughters and wife on Friday night.

During his career he played numerous leading roles with the Royal Shakespear­e Company and various West End theatres.

Born and bred in Liverpool, he joined the cast of Emmerdale in 2008 as Mick Naylor for 42 episodes.

His early career included a stint as a psychiatri­c nurse before joining a travelling circus as an escapologi­st and fire breather.

He and his wife Carole, who he met aged 39, moved to East Peckham with daughters Katie, 32, and Beck, 31.

They then moved to Paddock Wood in 1995 where they stayed for more than 20 years.

His work included films such as Chicken Run and Under the Greenwood Tree, with television performanc­es in Bleak House, Hornblower and The Bill.
