Three Maidstone powerlifte­rs broke 26 British and nine unofficial world records. Dave Mannering and teenagers Richard Jeffrey and James Williams, who train at the Howard de Walden Club, were competing in qualifying for the British and European Championsh­ips in Wales. All three went through while Alan Luker, who suffered an injury in qualifying, has still been selected. Jeffrey, 18, squatted 180kg, bench-pressed 110kg and dead-lifted 180kg for a total of 460kg – breaking eight British records and four unofficial world records. Williams, 19, squatted 170kg, bench-pressed 125kg and deadlifted 220kg for a total of 550kg – breaking nine British and five unofficial world records. Mannering (over-55 class), squatted 225kg, bench-pressed 150kg and dead-lifted 240kg for a total of 615kg – breaking nine British records. Luker (over65kg), squatted 210kg.
