Review of business practices
A government reviewer visited Maidstone to chat to entrepreneurs about their business methods.
Prime Minister Theresa May asked Matthew Taylor to conduct an independent review of employment practices. The survey was commissioned to look at whether methods should change to keep up with modern business models.
Mr Taylor visited Maidstone where he spent the morning meeting with entrepreneurs and start-up business owners at the Business Terrace on King Street, and the afternoon at Maidstone Television Studios meeting business owners, employers and workers.
The afternoon acted as a sort of question time, with Mr Taylor leading a discussion about business practice.
He said: “Most people recognise that we need as many jobs as possible in our economy and that the flexibility of our labour market is a strength.
“But people also want work to be fair and decent and to offer opportunities for progression and fulfilment.
“The question is what can we do to make work better without undermining our country’s excellent record on job creation?
“We’ve started working through these complex issues questions and now is just the right time to hear the views of businesses, employees, the self-employed and the public as a whole.”
