Police plea after man hit by car
Pedestrian seriously injured in accident
A pedestrian has been taken to hospital in a serious condition after being struck by a car.
It happened in Lower Boxley Road on Tuesday afternoon and police would like any witnesses to come forward.
Emergency services were called around 3pm. The incident involved a black Toyota Yaris which was travelling towards Well Road.
The pedestrian, a man in his 20s and from Maidstone, was taken to a London hospital with serious injuries. No arrests have been made. The KM asked police if the man was on the pavement or in the road when the accident happened but they had not been able to tell us before we went to press.
Lower Boxley Road was closed in both directions between Sandling Road and Boxley Road while ambulance teams and police investigators were at the scene.
Police want to hear from anyone who saw the collision or the Yaris and the man in the moments before the accident.
The same day motorists faced further delays after another crash involving a car and a bus on the A249. Queues were stretching back from the Stockbury Roundabout to Detling due to the collision, which happened just after 4pm on the Sittingbourne-bound carriageway.
One person suffered minor cuts and another reported shortness of breath.
Police were also called to a broken-down vehicle on the Sheppey Crossing heading towards the Island.
It happened at around 5pm and the road was closed while the vehicle was recovered. It reopened a short time later. Anyone with information about the crash in Maidstone is asked to call the serious collision investigation unit on 01622 798538 quoting KH/ DM/057/17. .
