An enraged resident filmed his confrontation of two alleged fly-tippers after catching them unloading a fridge-freezer from their car.

The video, which has been watched more than 300,000 times, appears to show Doug Salih giving the two men a piece of his mind after spotting them on the A229 Maidstone Road.

Mr Salih accuses the men of intending to leave the kitchen appliance in a field opposite his home in Staplehurst.

One of the men denies this, saying he was going to see some friends.

Mr Salih counters their argument, saying: “You are fly-tipping. You were going to put it over there weren’t you?

“We pay council tax and people like you dump things. This is wrong. Put it back in your car.”

After the exchange, in which the men insist they haven’t done anything wrong, they are seen loading the fridge back into the car.

It’s been claimed the item may have been dumped further down the road.

Hundreds of people have commented on the video, many supporting Mr Salih’s no-nonsense approach. Others said current rules and fees don’t make it easy for people to dispose of rubbish.

Police confirmed that officers had been called at 4.30pm, but there were no arrests made.

Maidstone Borough Council confirmed it was aware of the video and is investigating.

A spokesman said: “The council does not condone fly-tipping and will rigorously pursue any person found to be disposing of their waste illegally.”

They urged anyone with information to contact Martyn Jeynes, environmental enforcement manager, by email to martynjeynes@maidstone.gov.uk
