News from around the county Cop who moonlighted as male escort is sacked
A well-respected policeman has been sacked after moonlighting as a male escort for five years.
Sgt Kevin Jones advertised his services on a website called Adult Work under the alias Kev6913 and met female prostitutes. On Monday a misconduct panel at Kent Police’s Maidstone headquarters heard the supervisory officer, based at Gravesend, paid fellow users for sex at least 29 times, having inquired about services on 85 occasions between 2011 and last year. He also used the site’s web cam service 257 times, speaking to women from Britain, Romania, the Ukraine and Latvia.
Kev6913’s profile declared he was a straight escort “here for your needs” and to “pro- vide whatever you desire.” Sgt Jones, who has worked for the force for 20 years, priced his services at £70 for half an hour, £100 for an hour and £170 for two hours. However despite Sgt Jones’s frequent use of the site, Chief Constable Alan Pughsley, who presided over the hearing, was told there was no evidence Sgt Jones had ever provided services.
The force became aware of his activities after receiving an anonymous email last year.
Insp Tim Packman, from the Kent Police Federation, said Sgt Jones admitted advertising himself as an escort, failing to disclose secondary employment and using the services of and failing to disclose any association with sex workers. Det Supt John McDermott, from the force’s professional standards department, said DS Jones’ behaviour was particularly serious as such sites are often used by criminal gangs.
Sgt Jones told officers he had suffered depression and had paid for sex as he wanted affection, but that he no longer used the site as he is now in a relationship.
But Det Supt McDermott argued his position was untenable, saying he had shown a “flagrant disregard for the mission and values of the force.”
Mr Pughsley agreed, finding Sgt Jones’ actions amounted to gross misconduct and dismissing him without notice.
