More than 15,000 people attended the Kent Event Centre at the Detling showground for FFX Tool Show. On offer were power tools, hand tools, fixings and every type of equipment that might be used in the constructi­on industry. The show, now in its fourth year, ran for three days. FFX, formerly Folkestone Fixings, employs about 110 people at its head office and distributi­on centre in Lympne, and has branches in Ashford and Folkestone.

Celebrate Mothering Sunday with the Children’s Church on March 26 at the church at 9.45am. A short service, with craft activities and a posy of flowers for mum. Simnel cake and tea will be served afterwards. Open church: Refreshmen­ts and chat will be served up at St Peter and St Paul on Tuesday, March 28 from 10.0am-noon and 2-4pm. Coffee Stop: On Saturday, March 25 in the village hall from 10am-noon. The usual raffle and a bring and buy will be part of the proceeding­s as will the usual stalls. Library opening times: The library’s new Saturday opening hours are from 9am-1pm. The weekday opening of Monday and Thursday from 2-5pm and Wednesday from 2-5pm remain unchanged. The library remains closed on Sunday, Tuesday and Friday. Pre-school aged youngsters enjoyed the first of the story and rhyme sessions last Monday. The next one is on May 15 from 2.152.45pm. All are welcome. No need to book. Church services: On Saturday March 25 at 7pm, an evening service takes place at Laddingfor­d church hall, followed by a social evening at The Chequers. On Mothering Sunday, March 26 at 9.30am at St Peter & St Paul’s Church, all age breakfast takes place, followed by a 45 minute all age celebratio­n of mothers at 10am. The Baptist all age service in celebratio­n of Mothering Sunday starts at 10.30am at the Baptist Church. School celebrates mothers: The PTA at Yalding School will be opening an after school shop from 3pm on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday March 22-24, for children to consider gifts for their mums. Also on Friday, March 24 at 3pm, Mothers’ Day Tea will be served. Live music night: On Saturday, March 25 from 8-11pm, Richie Cooper will be providing music at The George. There will be a special menu on March 26 for Mothering Sunday. Garden society: The Spring Show is on Saturday, March 24 from 2.30pm at the village hall. All are welcome to go along and see the exhibits. Village Pensioners’ Club: The VPC group will be getting together for tea, chat and bingo on Tuesday, March 28 from 2-4pm at the Social Club. All retired residents will be welcome to go along. Prize for Bible: Following an unusual talk about Life Inside at Yalding and District WI last week, the competitio­n was for an item to take inside. Rachel Kerkham won first prize when she turned up with her Bible. Second prize went to Barbara Hazlewood who took a pack of cards, and strangely Vivien Nye took third prize with a handsaw! Sensible developmen­t: On Thursday, March 30 from 8-10pm at The George, the group of residents known as Yalding residents for sensible developmen­t, invite you to an informal meeting with elected KCC/MBC representa­tives including Steve McLoughlin, Paulina Stockell and David Burton. There the residents group will outline their concerns about the plans for 75 homes to be built on glebe land in the village and invite questions. All residents are welcome to the meeting; a sizeable turnout will show our elected representa­tives that residents really care about the future of Yalding.
