Volunteers clean up their village

-

Around 20 Hollingbourne residents set to with litter pickers to clean up their village ahead of St George’s Day.

The volunteers met at Hasteds on Saturday to don their hi-vis jackets and gloves supplied by Maidstone council before moving off to gather more than 20 bags of waste.

John Cobbett, one of the volunteers, said: “There was a lot of litter down Station Road, and also up on the motorway embankment.

“I don’t recall the last litter pick in the village, but it looks as though we will need them more frequently now, with all the cuts, it is not being kept as tidy as it once was.”

The event was organised by public-spirited resident Gill Phelan.
