‘The date could be changed’
Maidstone council said the towpath works would enhance the area for people living in Maidstone and visitors.
Matt Roberts, the authority’s community partnerships and resilience manager and chair of the safety advisory group, said: “It is unfortunate the River Festival organisers have decided not to hold the event. I am surprised by the comment that this is due to the towpath works. These improvements will be of great benefit.
“An option could have been to hold it after the works have been completed.
“MBC are happy to provide guidance to the organisers should they wish to arrange a date change.”
