Trip back in time with fun and food at Forties prices

-

A blast from the past took place in Park Wood as a 1940s Nostalgia afternoon was held.

It took place at the Fusion Healthy Living Cafe and featured original board games such as shove hapenny, plus memorabilia from the era including gas masks, coins and books.

Food was on offer using 1940s recipes, including raspberry buns and biscuits and sold at wartime prices - 6p each.

Another popular attraction was Lindyhop dancing.

Aimee Bartlett, community development worker at the cafe, in Cobb Way, said: “We had a great turnout and fantastic feedback.”

The charity Involve Kent was also involved and Cllr Gary Cooke has funded the afternoons. He arrived dressed in full naval uniform.

The event, held earlier in April, was the first of its kind and more are planned focusing on a different decade. It is hoped they will reduce loneliness and get people together.

The next is planned for Friday, June 9, between 4pm-6pm.
