On the trail of the great outdoors

-

Children found out just how great the great outdoors could be with a nature trail.

The fun activities were hosted by St Martin’s Church, in Northumberland Road, Shepway, to encourage families to understand more about wildlife.

On the bill was making a bug and bee house – the latter created by burying a china pot in the ground and filling it with straw and bedding.

An appropriately-named beetle drive was held on Saturday afternoon and youngsters took home a goodie bag with details on how to make bird feeder and enjoying nature when out and about.

Sue Yeo, assisted lay minister at the church, said: “The idea was to engage youngsters about wildlife when they are in gardens and parks and with their families.”

Next up at the church will be a coffee morning on Saturday, May 20, where a sponsored knitting event is being held, between 10am and noon. A Saturday craft fair with a Ploughman’s lunch runs on May 27, between 10 and 2.30pm.
