Out of the fire, into the frying pan…
Not content with having completed a 156-mile race through the Sahara Desert, Tovil runner Fred Streatfield turned his attentions to London on Sunday.
The 66-year-old racked up a time of 4 hours 32 minutes for the 26.2mile race, which came as light relief after returning from Morocco just days beforehand.
There, he endured 53 degree temperatures during the sixday-long Marathon des Sables,
Mr Streatfield, of Postmill Drive, completed the challenges in memory of his wife of 43 years, Laura, who died last January following a battle with lung disease.
He said: “It was brilliant. It was beyond words to reach the finish line. I was lost when Laura died, but people told me to keep going. I owe it to them.”
He’s raised more than £2,500 for Macmillan Cancer Support.
