Mentally ill woman admits attack

-

A 52-year-old Maidstone woman with mental health difficulties has admitted assaulting her mother.

Prinella Thomas, of London Road, shoved Megan Braidwood after getting angry she did not have her medication.

David Holman, prosecuting, explained Thomas’ mother did not support the prosecution but family friend Paul Denya, who witnessed the assault, wanted the courts to intervene so Thomas could get help.

He said: “He doesn’t want to be vindictive at all to the defendant but he feels this has reached breaking point and he is concerned about something more serious happening.”

The assault took place at the Lily Smith House supported housing complex in Knightrider Street, where her mum was living, in January.

Margaret Hyde, defending, said: “It was a simple push, there was no hard violence and no injury sustained.”

However, chairman of the bench at Maidstone Magistrates’ Court, Alex Whitmey, told Thomas: “You may not think it is serious but you have previously got a caution for assaulting the same victim. Your mum is clearly vulnerable. You can’t go on hitting her.”

She is set to be sentenced at the same court on Monday, May 8.
