Our county needs more reservoirs
Political editor Supplements editor We have had umpteen letters about new housing turning Kent into the “patio” of England and the chaos that ensues with impossible traffic, lack of services and so on.
But the most pressing crisis seems to be ignored.
Kent is first on and last off drought order. Whole rivers disappear, yet where are the reservoirs needed to cope with all these new houses?
Much as we do not want to lose more countryside, we must invest in new reservoirs or desalination plants.
If we don’t then there should be a moratorium on new building. Is there a county-wide plan for this? Sandra Sharp St Helen’s Lane, West Farleigh Business editor demanding the corporations start paying their share when that tax has decreased from 28% to 17%?
We hear if a company has its headquarters in the Cayman Islands or some other tax haven , no matter how much profit they make in the UK, they don’t have to pay taxes here. Why?
The government claims what they are doing is legal.
It is legal because when they wrote up the legislation they allegedly had corporation tax advisers giving advice.
But somehow out of what little the man on the street earns the government insists they start saving for retirement and pensions, they had better buy private medical What’s On reporter KoL editor insurance because there is no limit on how long they have to wait for an operation. Can’t work? No pay.
The “self-employed” aren’t entitled to sickness pay or having to wait a long time for an operation and now it seems that we had also better squeeze in a life insurance policy.
How can we do it when this austerity policy prevents us from even getting wage increases that even match the inflation rate? If you can’t survive on your wages, how are you going to budget for these other expenses?
