McKimm will reveal hand after presentations

Tonbridge

-

The hard work is about to start for Tonbridge manager Steve McKimm. Angels ended their season with a 2-1 win over Worthing on Saturday but the campaign ultimately ended in failure. They missed out on the Ryman League Premier Division play-offs by one point after losing to Kent rivals Folkestone in their penultimate game. Tonbridge hold their presentation night next Saturday and it will then be decision time for McKimm – and his players. He said: “Some people have been offered deals and accepted it and I’ll be in touch with everybody after the presentation to let them know what I’m doing. “If they think they’re not going to be retained and want to sort something else out, they can do that. But I’m not letting anyone know whether I’m keeping them or letting them go until after the presentation. “I’m not going to make any major decisions until after the presentation, when I’ll have had time to think about what I want, what direction we’re going to go in next year, what system we’re going to play and I’ll get players in to accommodate that system. “The work starts in 10 days’ time and then you start trying to get players in and release players. It’s part and parcel of football, unfortunately.” Nick Wheeler and Luke Blewden scored the Angels goals on Saturday before Ben Pope pulled one back. McKimm said: “I wanted to finish sixth and we managed to do that. Rather than play as if they had their flip-flops on the beach, I wanted them to give as much effort as they could and they did. “But it’s been a draining season. Ultimately, the boys let themselves down in the Folkestone game. “Folkestone stayed up because of that win and we missed out on the play-offs because of the defeat.”
