To book your team go on to the sports club website www. westfarlei­ghsportscl­ub.com Water safety: Water safety near Teapot Island and the weir is being highlighte­d by Kent Fire and Rescue Service this year, due to the fact that a number of people have been at risk of drowning there in recent years. Families are attracted to paddling in the shallow river water between the sluice gates and the bridge. They ignore the fact that the sluice gates open quickly and without warning and the water surges in. Sparkling preview evening: Riverside Gallery opened its doors last Friday evening on the new exhibition for May. The new exhibitors were there explaining their art, as visitors enjoyed wine and canapes and admired the new displays. The Durrant’s crackle glaze pottery, the glass fusion work of Alissa Jaffa and Desmond Sturdee’s glimpse into the past with his black and white photograph­s were all really exciting, but for me the meticulous mixed media collage work of Jean Stearn held the starring role. Do go along and have a look. The exhibition will be open on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays from 2-5pm until May 22. Baptist service: On Sunday, May 7, at 10.30am Baptist morning service with Treasure Seekers Sunday School takes place at the Baptist church. Little Fishes: On Monday, May 9 from 1.45-3pm, pre-school children and their parents/carers will be meeting in church. Children will enjoy a Bible story, some music, an activity and game, along with a healthy snack, while the adults chat over a cup of tea. Spring Fair reminder: There have been a few queries about the venue of the Twyford Pre-school May Fair on Saturday, May 6. It is indeed being held in the church grounds from 1-4pm, and not at the village hall. Go along for games, stalls, raffle and refreshmen­ts. Village Pensioners’ Club: On Tuesday, May 9, retired residents will get together again at the village Surgery afternoon closure: The surgery will be closed on Tuesday, May 9 from 1-5pm for staff training. WI meeting: The next WI meeting takes place on Tuesday, May 9 at 7pm at the village hall, when the annual meeting and resolution­s will be on the agenda. Coming up on June 3, is the WI jumble sale at the village hall from 10am-noon. Look out your unwanted items and keep until that day.
