Dressed up and glowing with the flow

More than 120 Beginners2 Runners members attended a 5k Glow Run at the Kent Showground last Saturday night. Dressed in tutus, neon paint and holding glow sticks, the club were well represente­d and were cheered on by representa­tives of kmfm during the race. “They cheered our runners brilliantl­y and made us feel so special,” said a club spokespers­on. Tom Carpenter held off close rival Niall Stewart to lead the 448 runners home at Maidstone parkrun last Saturday. Carpenter clocked 16min 26sec to hold off Stewart (16.46). Visitor Daniel Pink took third place in 17.22. Graeme Saker (5th, 17.48) set the best agegraded score of 86.33%. After finishing second in the previous two weeks, Harriette Wooley got her head in front for the ladies this week in 20.16. Jo Pettitt, who was third behind Wooley in those two runs, moved up to second in 22.05 with Jenny Duggan filling third spot in 22.40. Good weather also brought large numbers to Malling, where 200 completed the field. Phil Carey was first home in 18.44, just five seconds ahead of Kevin Robins (18.49) and first time visitor Matthew Walker (18.53) who finished in third. Last week’s leading lady Tereza Francova repeated the feat, this time with a PB of 19.59. She was followed by Beth West (2nd, 22.11) and Jennifer Coleman (3rd, 22.18). James Graham regained the best age-graded top spot with 80.07% for his time of 20.35.
