Waiting game for Cherries loanee Jake

-

Jake McCarthy is unsure what the future holds after returning to Premier League Bournemouth. McCarthy is back at Dean Court after completing his loan spell at Maidstone but has yet to be offered a new contract by the Cherries. The 21-year-old joined Bournemouth aged 12 but could be looking for a new club this summer. He said: “Nothing’s been said yet. I’m going back there now and just being in and around it and we’ll see. “I’m out of contract so still in negotiations for what’s going to happen. “I just leave all that stuff down to my agent and I focus on getting on the pitch. “I’m looking forward to seeing what happens, if it’s Bournemouth or somewhere else. “The main thing for me next season is playing games, no matter where I am, whether it’s Premier League, League 2, Conference, wherever. “I just need game time for my career and to push on. “There’s a few teams sniffing around. “First and foremost, I’ll see what Bournemouth want to do with me and go from there.” McCarthy’s only start for Maidstone came in the 4-2 win over Southport and there were times when he didn’t make the squad at all. But he enjoyed his time at the Gallagher, having joined at the end of January, and feels it has helped him. He said: “It’s been a great experience for me. “Obviously towards the end of the season I haven’t played as much as I’d like to but we got the results we needed to stay up and that was the main thing. “It’s been a great learning curve and hopefully it’s going to make me a better player. “The boys have done brilliantly. They went nine games unbeaten so you can’t really expect the gaffer to change it. “It was maybe bad timing for me. I started one game, which we won, and I came on for three or four and did myself justice. “The run we went on made it so I couldn’t start many games but I wish them all the best. “It’s a great bunch of lads, the best I’ve played with throughout my career. “I’ve become close to quite a few of the lads and I’ll definitely stay in touch. I’ve a few friends for life, to be honest.”
