Rebuilding job starts

-

Maidstone manager Jay Saunders has started releasing players and says there could be one or two surprises. Saunders was due to begin talking to his squad yesterday (Wednesday) as he looks to rebuild for next season. He’s set to meet up to three transfer targets at the end of the week, by which time those leaving the club will know their fate. Saunders said: “It’s not nice letting people go but it’s something that has to be done. “Supporters have their favourites and there might be one or two decisions that surprise people. “It’s difficult but, like I’ve said, there are players that will go because I just feel we need to improve in certain areas.” Jamar Loza is among those to have received offers from elsewhere, while Saunders is negotiating new deals with players who were already on part-time contracts for next season. There’s more money to play with as a full-time club but Maidstone won’t go silly. Saunders said: “We’ll make people good offers. “It was hard with what we were offering before because I knew we were paying a lot less than 90% of clubs in this league. “This year we’ll make good offers to players and then it’s up to them. “Before, our selling point was the ground and decent crowds but now we can offer daytime training and decent money. “Don’t get me wrong, we’re not going to go silly with wages. The owners wouldn’t pay ridiculous amounts and it’s not the way we want to work it.”
