Man killed himself after stabbing wife

-

A father-of-two stabbed his wife at their Rochester home after she found a message on his phone saying he hated her and wanted a divorce, an inquest has heard.

Harinder Garcha, who had just given birth to their second child, suffered serious injuries at the hands of Amandeep Garcha, 34, who fled and killed himself.

The accountant’s body was found 10 days later, after he jumped from the M2 bridge into the river near Medway Valley Park. Horrified motorists dialled 999 after seeing him clinging to the bridge railings.

The night before the attack at their home in Grafton Avenue, neighbours said they had heard them arguing. The following morning, Sunday, January 22, another row broke out.

Things got out of control and he got a large kitchen knife and stabbed her numerous times.

He called his parents, who live nearby, and an ambulance. As he sat in the corner of the living room covered in blood, his mother tended to her daughter-in-law and his father called a second ambulance.

Amandeep then got in his car and drove to the motorway bridge, just minutes away.

His distraught dad called him six times before he picked up and said he was going to kill himself.

Amandeep, who was on paternity leave from his job as a finance manager with Pizza Express, had a history of anxiety and depression.

Pathologist Dr David Rouse said the cause of death was immersion.

Coroner Scott Matthewson said: “This is an unusual and tragic case. It must have been a horrific scene.”

He recorded a verdict of suicide.
