News from around the county Terror plot mum moves up kill list

-

A mother from Medway who fled Britain to marry an Isis jihadi and join the terror group has moved up a “kill list” of American targets, according to a report.

Sally Jones, 49, has been an active recruiter of women since she left her home in Chatham in 2013 and followed Junaid Hussain to Syria.

Now a report in the Sunday Times suggests the couple were involved in at least 12 plots to kill westerners.

Hussain, from Birmingham, was killed in a drone strike in Raqqa in 2015, but Jones remains in Syria with her son, who has appeared in Isis videos.

The Sunday Times report alleges that the couple were among the most prolific recruiters for the terror group and actively engaged in planning attacks.

The plots are said to have involved kidnapping and beheading a US Army veteran and a massacre in a nightclub.

The plans nearly all involved targeting the military, including RAF bases in Britain, according to US court documents.

Jones, a former guitarist in a punk band in Medway, is also reported as being involved in the publication of at least three hit-lists of US military personnel, including staff at RAF bases in Britain. One list is said to have contained 1,300 names.

A year ago Jones was said to have appeared on Twitter to write: “To be honest I wouldn’t go into Central London through June... or even July well to be honest I wouldn’t go there at all especially by Tube.”
