Finals day biggest yet
Maidstone Invicta Primary League finals day
Kings Hill Sports Park hosted the biggest-ever Maidstone Invicta Primary League finals day last weekend.
More than 800 children took part on Sunday as 66 teams contested 33 finals from under-7 up to under-11 level.
Vinters FC were the day’s big winners, taking home three trophies, while there were also wins for Ditton Minors, Maidstone United, Borough Green, Bearsted, Sittingbourne Lions, Sevenoaks, Larkfield, Loose Lions, MPE, Park Regis, Barming, Ashford, K Sports, Range Rovers, Aylesford, Hollands & Blair, Kings Hill, Maidstone Kestrels, Leybourne and Coxheath & Farleigh.
League chairman Stephen Beaumont said: “Grassroots football is very much alive and well.
“Our finals day marked the end of our busiest season with almost 4,000 fixtures played during the 2016/17 version.
“Hosting 33 individual cup finals in one day is no easy task – we thank Kings Hill Sports Park for their support this year and of course our team of committee members and volunteers who worked for many weeks to bring this all together.”
Kelly Alden, the Kings Hill secretary and league fixture secretary, organised the event.
She said: ‘ We had over 3,000 visitors attend the finals.
“As soon as the presentations begin all the hard work is forgotten as you see the enjoyment in the children’s faces.”
League treasurer Ed McGrath added: “It’s great to see the footballing community come together to hold a fantastic event for the children.
“However, as our league grows, we are desperate for more volunteer committee members.”
Mr Beaumont also received a special award from the Kent FA for his years of service volunteering in youth football.
