The average age was over 70, hence the call for the younger generation to step up and help keep the Cross cleaning tradition alive. Lenham is renowned for the iconic Cross on the north downs and has always taken a pride in ensuring the maintenance of the site. If you are able to help form a team of volunteers to clean the Cross inform the parish council clerk on 859682. Thank you PCSO: For the past eight years the parishioners of Lenham have been fortunate to have PCSO Dave Rowley as our local officer. Dave worked with the parish council and community warden Martin Sherwood on many initiatives, covering crime prevention, road safety, and health and safety issues. He helped organise events which included all the community, often working in partnership with other agencies. Dave was a well-known figure locally and was always approachable and eager to offer help and advice. He will be missed, we wish Dave good luck and best wishes for his next career move and welcome our new PCSO Michael Buckfield, whom we hope to have a long and fruitful relationship with. The council wishes to thank A W Court Funeral Directors from Grafty Green which has kindly sponsored a new shed, to replace the antiquated and dilapidated shed in situ at present. A W Court supported the parish council and sponsored the installation of the water supply several years ago and continues its much appreciated support by enabling a new wooden shed to be purchased. Thank you. The stand alone tourism website for Lenham is up and running. visitlenham.co.uk has details of events and things to do in and around the parish. It was an inspired programme for a summer evening. The first half featured the Alice Suite, composed by Jacob Bride and conducted by Ben Knowles. Based on Alice in Wonderland, it provided wonderful opportunities for dancers from the primary school. The interval provided opportunities to admire artwork on scenes from Alice by the primary school children (every child contributed). The second half of the concert featured classics, concluding with a rousing performance of the finale of the Symphony No 7 by Beethoven. Profit from ticket sales and the bar went to the festival’s chosen charities – the Katie Piper Foundation, the primary school and the CRSO. It was a memorable evening thanks to Jerome Sadler and his wonderful musicians – Jim Myers. PARISH COUNCIL: Dinosaurs sun bathing in your Orchard!
