Medway & Maidstone under-15 boys finished second in the latest round of the Kent Young Athletes League in Ashford.

Long jumpers Michael Uzozie (5.39m) and Jermaine Kevill (5.21) – in his first meeting for the club – both won.

The club also won the 4x100m relay and set a new club record on their way to victory in the 4x300m relay. Medway & Maidstone’s time of 2.39.2 ranks them third in the UK.

Sprinters Kieran Isaac and Ben Lineker were both successful in the under-13 boys’ 100m and Isaac won the shot with a throw of 9.32.

Lineker (4.76) won the long jump and there were points gained by Cameron Featherstone and Alistair Shelley in the 1,500m.

Toby Hughes won the javelin with a distance of 29.93.

Gypsy Nash won the under-13 javelin with a throw of 23.07, setting a club record in the process, and also won the hammer with a throw of almost 35m.

Sarah Mitchell knocked two seconds off her 1,200m personal best and Lily Crossley won the B-string hammer with another PB.

There were also strong performances by the under-15 girls.

Keira Rose ran a personal best 300m time of 43.8 and Summer Salter set season’s best performances in the shot, discus and hammer.

The day was capped with an excellent second place for the 4x300m team of Rose, Charlotte Young, Erin Hughes and Abi Walters.

Their time of 3: 00.9 was just 0.8 seconds off the club record. Maidstone parkrun took a new direction last Saturday when, with a fallen tree blocking the usual route, a new course was quickly measured towards Aylesford using the new riverside path.

But the result still had a familiar look, with Tom Carpenter the winner in 16min53sec.

Ben Hughes (JM15-17) came second in 17.31, which rewarded him with the best age-graded score of 79.45%, just pipping Alan Newman (VM60- 64) whose time of 20.46 and 18th place overall gave him 79.29%.

First-time visitor Taylor Huxster took third place in 17.45.

Another first-time visitor, Kelsi Cornish (JW15-17), was the leading lady in 20.17.

Nicole Priestly came second in 21.47 and Vera Hunter was third in 22.13. There were 371 runners.

At Malling, Noel Lyons took first place with 18.13, also good enough to give him the best age-graded score of 80.97%.

Stephen Turpie produced a PB of 18.22 to give him second again and Oscar Goldsmith, also running a PB of 19.05, took third spot.

Tereza Francova was leading lady in 20.39 and Louis Holden came second in 24.08, just ahead of Sharon Barnett who recorded 24.14 for third place. There were 177 runners.
