A Leeds & Broomfield side featuring five teenagers did captain Chris Davis proud.

They beat Orpington by two wickets to move up to sixth place in Division 3 on Saturday.

With George Davis, 19, Dominic Smith, 19, Monte McCague, 18, Charlie Luxton, 17, and Ed Scrivens, 15, all regulars, Leeds are comfortably the youngest side in the division.

Scrivens and McCague took four wickets each as Orpington were bowled out for 239.

Daniel Creasy (65) anchored the reply while Michael Shelton finished on 48 not out as Leeds claimed their fourth win of the summer.

Davis said: “We’re going through a period of transition.

“We’ve got a really young side so we’re pretty happy with how we’ve performed.

“We’ve won four, lost five and drawn one.

“Of the five we’ve lost, three or four were close margins, one wicket or 10 runs, that kind of thing. So we’re performing well, it’s just learning to get over the line in a few of the close games.

“We did it on Saturday and it was good to see, especially with five teenagers in the side.

“We’re competing well and it’s looking good for the future.”

With only 28 points separating second and eighth, the promotion race is wide open.

Davis said: “If you can put a run of five wins together, which any team can do, you don’t know where you will end up.

“We’ll see but I just want us to keep playing the way we are.”
