Smiles on the water slide
It was sunny, it was soapy, and it was super fun. Hundreds took on a giant inflatable slide in one of the most memorable events of the summer. Super Slide Saturday returned to Sutton Valence this month, and saw people from far and wide gather for stalls, food, and of course the main event, a 100m inflatable slide. This year the event was raising money for the Kent, Surrey, and Sussex Air Ambulance, with each ticket bought getting visitors two rides down the slide on an inflatable ring. The event was organised by the Queen’s Head Oddfellows Fund, and has proved very popular in recent years, with spectators enjoying a range of food and beverages from stalls lining the High Street. design of Sir Christopher Wren. After the guided tour, you will have free time to purchase lunch and explore this beautiful market town which is home to almost 200 listed buildings and which is laced with old buildings from the lost mighty Benedictine Abbey. In the afternoon a short drive through the countryside to Oxford will take you to the old Folly Bridge where you will board an Edwardian boat that began life as a steamer. On board during the two hour cruise downstream through Christ Church Meadows and along the Eights Week rowing course you will enjoy the magnificent Nuneham House and Sandford Lock, the deepest on the Thames. There will be an opportunity to purchase refreshments on board before mooring back in Abingdon for the journey home. The cost of the trip is £57 and the coach will depart from Aylesford Bulls Rugby Club (ME20 7DS) at 8am and return at 7.30pm Free parking is available. The choir sang four pieces to open and close the evening and other children played solos on instruments. The music played was to a high standard and particular highlights were recorder solos by Ruth Bromwich and Alice Chaplin. Ebeny Williamson’s piano piece was also remarkable. There were performances on the drums, ukulele and acoustic and electric guitars. Well done to all the children who were brave enough to perform in front of an audience and, of course, many thanks to Mrs Alexandre who lead the choir and organised the evening.
