Keep rocking, ‘little old’ Maidstone

-

Political editor Supplements editor Business editor The Ramblin Man Fair: I will be in a minority, as you will no doubt receive the annual letters from those who constantly moan about this event.

However, I would like to congratulate Maidstone Borough Council in bringing this global event to my ‘little old’ Maidstone and how proud I am that our town is privy to hosting it.

I appreciate the music is not to everyone’s taste, but for me as a 54-year-old aging rocker, I thoroughly enjoyed listening to the bands of my youth from the comfort of my back garden in Weavering.

To have the likes of ZZ Top playing a few hundred yards away is a very surreal experience, and is one that should be embraced, before those who oppose it force it to move away. Enjoy it while we have it and keep rocking, Maidstone. To say ‘the tide of public opinion turns and the decision makers will run a mile’ made me smile.

Since when has anyone listened to the public and the decision makers will not run a mile if there’s money to be made by the borough.

Tony Harwood and his fellow councillors need to wake up now.

He acknowledges there is a problem, so, stop the erosion of fields and countryside, stop the developments blighting the county and blighting peoples lives. Stop the subsequent ever increasing resultant volume of traffic. Stop the urbanisation of rural areas, hamlets and villages. Stop now. The dreadful planning decisions made now should haunt those responsible for the appalling legacy they will leave for future generations. Tim Cowen Warmlake, Sutton Valence by imports. That’s why local fruit growers are calling for a Seasonal Agricultural Workers Scheme – similar to the one we had until 2013 when workers from Bulgaria and Romania could come to the UK under EU freedom of movement.

With Brexit border controls on the way, farmers need to know they will be able to get the workers they need. As we enjoy this year’s fruit I’m pressing the government to make sure we’ll still be able to enjoy British berries after Brexit.
