Christmas lights: Cllr Cheesman said the new hedging would have an impact on the Christmas Lights Ceremony. Mallards Way open space revetment work: Cllr Weeks attended a meeting with the clerk, Alan Frith (MBC) and Derek Whitehead from Medway Valley Countrysid­e Partnershi­p. Agreed with approximat­ely £330 contributi­on from the parish council to carry out work with gabions to match those existing. Four signs would be provided to advise visitors not to feed the wild fowl with bread. These would not be arriving until September. No comment. Garden competitio­n: All roads submitted except for Rhodewood and King’s Acre. Cllr Greenhead suggested one property on King’s Acre for judges to look at. Cllr Greenhead had suggested an informal “prettiest road” competitio­n next year. Concerns were raised as to whether this would unfairly prejudice less affluent roads or smaller roads. Decided to be something to consider at a later date. Usual prizes were proposed of vouchers at £50, £25 and £15. Olympicnic / David Nuttall meuorial Update: Cllr Cheesman passed on the thanks of the parish council to Cllr Newton for his assistance with the memorial stone. Cllrs Newton and Greenhead would arrange to install the stone shortly before the unveiling. Cllr Cheesman had sent details of the memorial unveiling to the church for inclusion in the newsletter and the parish notices. The Rev Steve Hughes would say a few words at the unveiling. Cllr Cheesman asked if Cllr Newton would be available to attend. Community centre concerned at the current proposal that the childcare providers at the community centre may be closing over the next month. Date of next meeting: September 5 at 8pm. Raffle prizes and some cakes were donated which helped to raise the church funds by more than £104. The next planned coffee morning is in September - more informatio­n nearer the time. been no response to anybody taking part in the Friends of Kent Churches Ride and Stride on September 9. Although it is necessary to be available for some of the day to walk or ride, advance preparatio­n is required to find sponsors. Parish council: There were three items on the agenda when the planning committee met recently. No objections were raised to a request for listed building consent for the provision of additional York stone and a courtyard at Chilston Park hotel. Two retrospect­ive applicatio­ns relating to work at the Meadows travellers site were discussed because, although the site is in Headcorn parish, it abuts Boughton Malherbe. Busy Sunday: The next-to- last cream teas afternoon of 2017 will be held at Boughton Malherbe church on Sunday, August 13 from 2pm-5pm. When the washing up is finished there will, at 6.30pm, be a service of evening prayer in the church.
