Venues rewarded for helping to make town safer
Maidstone’s top takeaways, restaurants and pubs have been rewarded for making the town a safer place to socialise.
Retailers were also praised for their work during this year’s MaidSafe Awards put on by One Maidstone, which works alongside police and traders to increase security.
Fremlin Walk Security won the team award while Kerry Elkington, of House of Fraser, won the award for best performance.
Taxi Marshals and TMS Protection won the Night Time Economy award and police community support officer Caroline Wayland picked up the Timpsons Special Award during the ceremony hosted at the Muggleton Inn, Maidstone High Street, on Thursday.
Ilsa Butler, town centre coordinator for One Maidstone, said: “The awards were excellent and it was a really nice occasion which gave members the opportunity to meet each other face to face.
“They interact on the radios but might not necessarily talk in person. It was also an opportunity for us to thank them for their contributions as well.”
Eleven pubs and restaurants were given certificates to acknowledge their work in helping One Maidstone keep the town safe.
Miss Butler said: “We had the Safe Socialising awards which were presented to a number of venues, which is an accreditation to demonstrate that they are running a well managed venue.
“Each year we also have the MaidSafe Awards themselves, and members can nominate other colleagues.”
Everyone who achieves the Safer Socialising Award is judged to have made a positive contribution towards improving standards of management, community safety and crime reduction.
Winners of the award include The Brenchley, Strawberry Moons, Society Rooms, Royal Albion and Kala Red.
Other winners of the Safe Socialising Award were The Muggleton Inn, McDonald’s Week Street, McDonald’s Broadway, Earls, Source Bar and Lashings.
