Common sense changing lanes

-

Editor News editor I agree entirely with Shaun Kelly (KM Letters, August 24).

I too would like to know who signed off the plans for the road layout at the junction of Hermitage Lane and the entrance to the new retail park and if they are being held responsible for the months of traffic congestion and the cost of re-designing and implementing the road layout there.

Anyone with any common sense at all would have known the present layout was always going to cause problems. It seems while these people might have some sort of qualification in traffic management, they are sorely lacking in that essential qualification – common sense.

I say this because there are, and have been, many examples in and around Maidstone of changes to road layouts which have, in fact, made the situation dangerous.

One example was when the approach lanes to the Running Horse roundabout from the Penenden Heath direction were changed so if you wanted to take the exit for Aylesford, contrary to common sense you had to approach in the right-hand lane, where anyone who needed to go in that direction, found themselves having to dodge other traffic, which still used the old, common sense way.

I was one of the many who complained about this and eventually the lanes were changed back to the original layout.

If in the future these sorts of changes are going to be made, for goodness sake, make the plans easily accessible to the general public, and take note of those who use their common sense to see the obvious. On the website there is our newsletter with other information.

For example, we have a limited arrangement with the Maidstone CAB and a local society member or resident of the Maidstone borough affected by MS might contact the CAB, explain that he/she has MS and benefit from some dedicated advice, such as housing.

If there has been no progress, Mrs Shaw could try this. Will Buckle MS Society Maidstone significant police presence.

I then drove out of town and saw a group of protesters again with union flags and music.

And then the penny dropped. They were a group of fascists protesting about the development and expansion of the current Maidstone Mosque.

It makes me ashamed to be British to see this type of blatant prejudice, xenophobia and racism towards our Muslim community.

We should embrace diversity and be setting an example to other communities of how to be tolerant and unprejudiced.

I would like those affected by this shameful behaviour to be reassured not everybody is as unkind.

I welcome all faiths, creeds and ethnicities, and feel we are a richer community for our rich cultural differences.

If we could learn to live harmoniously alongside one another the world would be a better, safer place for everyone. Name and address supplied families with problem debt.

More committee members are needed to help with these issues and if you feel you have something to offer call Jonathan Mann on 020 7841 4502; or email jonathan.mann@ childrenssociety.org.uk.

On a broader point, if you have a venue that might lend itself to a fundraiser please get in touch. I can help connect you with the right people and together we can make a difference. Email helen.grant.mp@ parliament.uk.
