Tree takes finals in his stride

Ditton Bowls Club hosted the Maidstone & District Bowling Associatio­n finals day on Sunday. Andy Tree reached three finals and won them all for his club, Bearsted & Thurnam, who were the most successful club on the day. Marden’s Norma Clements retained her Champion of Champions title, while the ladies’ singles competitio­n was won this year by Doreen Eastbury from the host club. Winners: Men’s singles: R Ferguson ( Bearsted); Men’s pairs: M Goldacre & A Tree ( Bearsted); Men’s triples: M Palmby, I Parkes & A Tree ( Bearsted); Men’s fours: R Thew, P Collins, D Cooper & M Scott ( Marden); R Murning ( Maidstone); over- 60 pairs: M Goldacre & A Tree ( Bearsted); Mixed triples: R Martin, G Lunn & R Lunn ( Bearsted); singles: D Easterbury ( Ditton); Ladies’ champion of champions: N Clements ( Marden); Ladies’ pairs: S McBean & J Stubbs ( Loose); Ladies’ triples: A Baptie, J Brunning & D Cheeseman ( Hunton); pairs: S Parkes & I Parkes ( Bearsted); Club two triple competitio­n: Ditton. Maidstone Invicta Rowing Club sent three boats to take part in the British Rowing Tour last weekend. Fifteen MIRC members were among the rowers who began the route in Preston and covered more than 40 miles along the Lancaster Canal through Garstang, Lancaster and Hest Bank, finishing at Tewitfield near Carnforth. The highlight was rowing over the 664-foot-long Lune Aqueduct.
